Default Artificer Mesmer - Signet Joy!

[EDIT]Edited with suggested changes and using the new gwBBCode!

Inspired by a hero build posted in the Hero section (duh...) Ive decided to try to put together a PvE signet build.

Using Mantra of Inscriptions and a build utilising 6/7 signets, Artificers Insignia on the armour and a wand/shield your armour can be boosted to around 89 combined with +30 health and -2(20%) from the shield it makes a pretty hardy build.

I am going to theorise this as a Me/Mo simply because they synergise well, but if anyone comes up with another idea, feel free to post.

The build so far looks like this:

[build name="Artificer Mesmer" box prof=Mesmer/Monk desc= Smitingprayers=10 Inspirationmagic=10+1+1 Dominationmagic=5+1 Fastcasting=10+1 ][Signet Of Judgment][Bane Signet][Castigation Signet][Purge Signet][Signet Of Distraction][Mantra Of Inscriptions][Strength Of Honor][Resurrection Signet][/build]

Other signet choices might include hex eater, signet of distraction/disruption, signet of rage, signet of mystic wrath, signet of disenchantment.

Other maintained enchant choices might include retribution, holy wrath, succour etc.

The lack of reliance on energy allows the build to utilise maintained enchants. It also allows for the use of armour boosting inscriptions rather than radiant ones, and the lack of need for a focus allows the use of a shield. As well as not having to worry about the conservation of energy as long as they have enough to renew the Mantra every so often.

I know a similar build was used in GvG at some time, but im looking more specifically at PvE.
Can you give me any guidance on improving the build?

Yes, [skill]signet of rage[/skill] can be very powerful against monsters that carry adrenaline skills. Heroes can't differentiate between warrior monsters and caster monsters when using this, but a human mesmer should be able to use it better, although it is a little area-dependent.

As long as your energy regen can sustain your enchantment, it doesn't matter even if you have 0 energy. If you need energy to recast your mantra in mid-battle, just weapon swap to your +energy set, cast your mantra, then swap back, easy. So some options you can consider are:

[skill]Signet of Disenchantment[/skill] - for enchant removal (also works well against Spell Breaker, Vow of Silence, etc.)
[skill]Purge Signet[/skill] - gets rid of all hexes and conditions

Some elite choices besides [skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill] can be:

[skill]Keystone Signet[/skill] - combined with MoI for even faster recharge of your signets
[skill]Signet of Midnight[/skill] - for a more defensive build

For interrupts (although I prefer to let my mesmer hero do the interrupting), you can include:

Signet of Distraction - nice interrupt for an Artificer build
[skill]Signet of Disruption[/skill] - another interrupt especially if you have a hexer on your team

Agree, which was why I included it in my hero mesmer Artificer build:

old news.
with high points in fast casting (12+) u should really bring purge signet .(as the energy loss does not bother u).
also a pity to leave out signet of humility as its one of the strongets skills in the game and with high fast castin points its not so painful to cast ( i dont pve much.....but i guess a boss without ever being able to use its elite is not a bad thing)

I considered signet of humility in my hero mesmer build too but I find that to be more useful for PvP than in PvE. In any case, I suppose it can be thrown out there as a variant.

Artificer builds are not new in PvP (although rare) but they are kind of ignored/forgotten in PvE, in fact many build ideas nowadays are a rehash of the old ones since this is a 3+ year old game. You can pretty much take any single character build nowadays and claim it is a rehash of another old single character build sometime back. Come up with an "original" effective build and I bet I can dig out something similar in the past.

I think it is also good to bring back some Artificer mesmer builds for PvE, after all that talk of Sabway and necros being supreme in PvE with infinite energy. Who needs energy when you can work so well with signets?

This is slightly unrelated to the full Artificer build you're aiming for, but I'd like to offer you the Me/Mo that I've been vanquishing the undead areas of Kryta on HM with:

Template Code: OQREAqkze0g81BVCPwuzH8AEAA
[skill]keystone signet[/skill][skill]bane signet[/skill][skill]mantra of inscriptions[/skill][skill]ether lord[/skill][skill]ether signet[/skill][skill]light of deldrimor[/skill][skill]judge's insight[/skill][skill]retribution[/skill]

With a warrior heavy team, you can effectively keep Retribution up on yourself and 5 others with 2-3 Judge's on your warriors. Keystone Signet is helpful for keeping Ether Signet up and squeezing in some extra damage with Bane Signet. Ether Lord combines very well with Ether Signet, and is helpful when you mess up and need a few extra seconds to gain enough energy to keep your enchantments maintained.

It's not a template I'd play everywhere, but it does respectable support damage in areas like Nebo Terrace, Black Curtain, and The Cursed Lands.

I never claimed it was new. :P

I have been trying different signets in there all the time, Purge I do like but I would like to pump up the fast casting to use it effectively and that would detract from the damage from the smiting signets.

Signet of humility might be a nice addition also, Ive been running this build on my hero and Id be inclined to make her more interupt heavy and stick sig of humility on my player if i knew id be up against a particularly hard boss.

I feel it is a wasted opportunity not to use [Signet of Distraction], as you suggest as an optional signet. With a small investment of 6 Domination it will disable a skill for 18 seconds (with 6 signets), and have a recharge time close to Distracting Shot when used under Mantra of Inscriptions. Fair enough, it's only spells, but a skill well worth considering in a build such as yours.

Using this it should probably be ok:

Smiting Prayers: 12
Inspiration Magic: 10 + 1 + 1
Domination Magic: 6 (+ 1)
Fast Casting: 6 + 1

I really think the choice of signets is heavily influenced by what you're doing. Just switch around depending on what you need. You can't really go that wrong with a signet build imo.

The breakpoint for 3sec disable is 6. So i think if I invested 5 (+1) I might be able to stick an extra point elsewhere. Maybe something like:

Smiting Prayers: 10
Inspiration Magic: 10 (+1 +1)
Domination Magic: 5 (+1)
Fastcasting: 10 (+1)
